James Ledley - Profile I have been teaching since January 2003 and am a Registered Tutor with the Registry of Guitar Tutors. I can take students through their electric guitar examinations up to Grade 7 at present. TheAcoustic Guitar Syllabus has been released and I can also take students through their acoustic guitar exams covering such things as fingerstyle, rhythm dynamics, chord theory, polaying scales etc... please visit The Registry of Guitar Tutors site - here - for more information. Even if you decide not to take an exam the books and resources I use are extremnely helpful and designed to help you with your playing.
A bit more about me..... I have been playing Acoustic and Electric Guitar for the last 18 years. I am self taught so I know how hard it can be at the start, but I can assure you that if you "stick at it" its worth it in the end. I have been in lots of bands playing different styles from indie to rock. I have been in the studio many times. I also write my own songs - you can listen to the most recent stuff from this page.
Influences Over the years I have had various influences and I think its important to always try to keep an "open mind" when it comes to music in general - my main influences include: Jimi Hendrix. Led Zeppelin, Jimi Page, Paul Weller, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, Small Faces, The Who. I try and listen to loads of different stuff - I feel it helps when songwriting and to improve your playing in general.
Kortez (2 piece acoustic) After the split of the two piece cover band I was in in late 2005, I decided to re-advertise and have now got together with another guitarist - its mostly an acoustic set up but we're planning on integrating some more "dancy" tunes, (Kortez) is still going strong and we're ready to gig now after getting things sorted for the last 6 months or so. I have quite a bit of audio on this site including my own stuff and the bands songs - checkout the MP3's below for just some of what we're currently playing in the set list/s. We're hoping to get gigging soon and I want also to bring in my own songs into the set/s r - if you like the sound of the stuff give me/us a shout, its good to get opinions on the music. "Live" in Menagerie, Belfast January 2005 My Own Songs I'm writing constantly so there a lot more tunes "in the pipeline" - hoping to get these finished and recorded soon. The tracks below are the most recent recordings of my own songs though some were wrote quite a while ago - I decided to add a bit of harmonica in a few tracks to add to the "feel" of the melody - though not recorded "professionally" i.e, in the studio these were done at home on a Fostex MR8 (8 Track) the quality is pretty good. I wanted to get these tracks recorded and "all in one place" on an album, as I have had them sitting around for a while. It ended up being a 12 track album - "Turn The Pages" - still have a lot more songs wrote and will hopefully get more recorded soon.
